Information is Beautiful. Left Versus Right. Politics in the Media.
In my group I am doing 'Policits' in the media but because this question is very broad I'm going to change it to 'How Graphic Design in the media sways opinion".
This is the first example I found and its from 'Information is Beautiful' Its such a good poster in that it really explains to the audience what the Left and Right side are like and how they differ. Its basically turned quite a difficult subject into this interesting diagram which anybody can inderstand. By combining simple text and image the poster is easily understood despite having a shed load of information. This poster isn't on any side and isn't bias so when answering the question, it doesn't exactly sway opinion, but its tells you to step back and get to grips with what side does what.

This poster relates with the sun Healing and all the great things that will happen if you vote conservative. Like all posters from back in the day they are all over the top and the imagery is always easy to understand. The man in the poster who has his arm around the woman's shoulders is meaning there to say "look at a better world".
Posters during this time have this feeling of danger with them. That was the beauty with propaganda during this period it really scared people into picking a side. Not so much scare but gave this sense that in order to save that boat from death you MUST vote conservative. Very good use of metaphor.
After exploring the internet for modern day posters to do with Politics it was incredibly hard to find anything! My own guess is that when the television came into our world people would use that to Sway the masses opinions. The poster is quite bland and only has two colours and personally, it doesn't say a lot to me

In this poster, it doesn't say what change will happen if you vote. I guess because of modern day media you find out over the television and newspaper. However, it lacks so much information. When looking at the posters from the 1900s you really get a good of what change will happen. In this poster you get a fresh feeling from it.

The English Language

TASK 2// Graphic Design produced at Different Scales
Here is a peice done by Julia Trigg. I love her work. "The rich vintage colours and abstract compositions work particularly well in contemporary interiors" Follow this link to look at her website.
This Designers colourful typography can be found in London, Stockholm, and Paris. I admire this work. You could class it as graffiti but at the end of the day its not. Its street typography. Thats something you could argue with. Graffiti being typography.

TASK 2// Graphic Design produced using Different Media
Here is the first one I managed to find. As you can see the 'Design' has been made using different coloured card which has then been folded to form letter. Visit this website to find more work based around textiles etc.
This must have taken a while. This designer appears to have made the letter "G" out of card and then, once finished' drew on top. Pen on card. Follow this link to go to the blog I found it on - m-weaver1013.blogspot . The Letter was done by Mike Perry
I have bever before seen anything like this. Exhibited by Richard J. Evans at the Free Range Graduate Art & Design Show. I believe the typeface used is Times New Roman. I'm also guessing the letters are metal. It would be nice to know how they were made. They aren't the same but they look a bit like letter press letters.

TASK 2// Graphic Design performing Different Functions
To me the looks like the designer is relating how a man's moustache says something about their personality and how a certain typeface says something about the meaning of a poster, or the mood of an idea. Simply amazing. Great idea.
Closeups of a poster to do with Typography. "So You Need A Typeface?" Made to help people discover a typeface that they like or maybe to help someone find a typeface that would suit a particular piece of design they are working on. Helping people discover a conventional type.
This is clever, and its a letterpress. Therefore I love it. I managed to find out that it was made during the 60s but thats it. I got it of this blog here - mylccsadventures.blogspot.
Modernism graphics. We have the name of an designer this time! Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1914) This is very early graphic design. I love it how he has only used type to create this poster. I say this because in those days you wouldn't really expect to see this sort of work

TASK 2// Graphic Design delivering Different Types of Messages
Here is a poster from Soviet Russia during the second world war. I can't speak Russian but I love the layout and colour of it. I quite easy to see that the man in the middle of this poster is Adolf Hitler. The was this poster has ben laid out gives Hitler this power. For example the red colour gives the viewer the sense Hitler is dangerous, the arrows made in to lightning bolts, another example of death and power leaking out of the poster. The writing and layout of the text is engulfing the poster and to me is almost demanding the viewer to read and obey.
"Stare at the monitor..." Is a poster done by Shaz Madani. There is no information about who Shaz is but in his "About Me" section it says "If you would like more information about me or my work please don’t hesitate to get in touch. This is such a clever poster, very simple but very effective. The sort of poster you look at and think '....why didn't I think of this?...". Another reason why I like it is because its been done on a letter press machine. The message in this, to me anyway, is Shaz is against or sick of staring at a computer all day and it makes me think about how long I spend staring at a screen. Quite clever.

Here is another soviet poster but this time its directed at alchol. I think that the message of this one is the bottle represents alcohol and the drunk men represent alcoholics. The men are under the bottles demand. The bottle has tricked them and has now stolen them. Again I wish i could really understand the poster but its in Russian. You can see that each man and the bottle has writing going across their chests. I'm guessing thats the biggest clue to what this poster is saying!
Letter Press!
The message of this is simple. Its informing the audience that their is a crabtree farms BBQ at the weekend. This poster is so conventional. I love the pig with the flame, its so easy to understand. The big "B" which goes on to say Barbecue, Beer and Blue Grass. Again, I couldn't find the name of the designer which is becoming a massive problem for me. Here is the link to the guys blog syncop8

The video its self works so well. Everything slots in together to make this video that flows perfectly.

Poster Design by "FruityCake". Unfortunately, no real name is given of the young female designer. I found this on 'designreviver.com' and the post is called "30 inspiring poster designs". I think its the worn, old look that this poster holds that draws me into it. Obviously, this isn't a real t-shirt so I'm not to sure if it counts but lets imagine that it is! I love how the typography on the t-shirt makes it 3 dimentional. It makes a bland white t-shirt scream out a us. Its like its shouting out as us. Design done by Richard Roche. He is a Graphic Design student working on my BFA at Minnesota State University in Mankato. This t-shirt is based on Obama's victory speech.
The Stenberg Brothers. These are the guys who got me into graphic design. Their work is from 1919 onwards. They worked alot in many field of design but their name really excelled from their movie poster. The brothers were called Vladimir Stenberg (April 4 1899 – May 1, 1982) and Georgii Stenberg ( October 7 1900 – October 15, 1933) and were very much Soviet artists (Russian). The poster is so intersting. The colour used and how the 41 breaks up the poster. For their day they must have been so inspirational.

"Let's Press"
This video was filmed at the University of Art, Camberwell. It shows the process of how you Letter Press. I think its the process that really interests me with this video. I have always preferred old cameras. The long process of taking the photos and then developing was always so exciting. I think that my love for photography reflects on this. It seems that you have to spend a long time setting up the letters and making sure the machine is clean; Then, after all that effort printing out a piece of work that you are honestly proud of. I'm not sure when but I can't wait to get stuck into letter pressing. I have no idea how it will go but I am determined to stick at it.

Burrill print to benefit Wilton's Music Hall
'Anthony Burrill has created a new print to raise funds for Wilton's Music Hall in London, the East End Victorian venue that still has many of its original features. The print will be launched at a Vintage Open House event on Sunday September 25 by none other than Barbara Windsor.'
I found these screen prints on the Creative Review Blog. I have never screen printed before but I hope to get in to it as the year goes by. I love the idea of finding letters (Like the photo above) and creating my own poster full of type.

TASK1// What do I want to Learn?
- Identify and explain 5 reasons why you chose to study on this programme.
- The open day gave me a good feeling that this was a very good course
- Looking through the end of year book and realising how professional the 3rd years work was made me think that ( with a hard working attitude) I could one day produce work like theres.
- I knew the course would be good as my brother came here and his best friend did the course.
- It was recommened at my School and at Brighton City College.
- Identify and explain 5 things that you want to learn during your time on the programme.
- HOW TO LETTERPRESS!!!! I have never been near one let alone used one. I would love to produce how to create such a look in my work.
- Learn Illustrator to a professional level ( This goes for the whole CS suite)
- Become an even more comfortable and confident designer
- How to professionally create a typeface. Look in depth into how it is done.
- To really grow up in this course / to maintain a strong and mature attitude.
- Identify and explain 5 skills that you think are your strengths.
- Poster Design
- Typography
-Page Layout
-Drawing
-Photography
- Identify and explain 5 things that you want to improve.
-My knowledge of the CS suite so that i can produce a variety of work.
-My Typography
-My Spelling
-My photography
- In all fairness I'm a designer in the making and i want to improve myself as much as possible.
- Identify and explain 5 ways that you will evaluate your progress.
- work harder
- stay in college most evenings
- work hard on my blog
- Always except criticism and take note of it

Ten Things I want to achieve this year
1) Have a strong understanding of the whole CS suite not just Photoshop and Indesign.
2) Find a good work placement that will give me a good understanding of Graphic Design in the real world.
3) Successfully complete my First Year!
4) Find a student house that is close to the college so I can be on time easily.
5) Increase my knowledge of correct conventions ( with poster design and type etc)
6) Find my specialized area.
7) Get to the stage where I can comfortably stay in college till late.
8) Accept that my social life (according to Fred...) is over!
9) To know that I've had a good year where I have learned a lot
10) Carry on meeting new people who will inspire my work.
